From Tim Bray's post entitled Atom 1.0 we learn

There are a couple of IETF process things to do, but this draft (HTML version) is essentially Atom 1.0. Now would be a good time for implementors to roll up their sleeves and go to work.

I'll add this to the list of things I need to support in the next version of RSS Bandit. The Longhorn RSS team will also need to update their implementation as well. :)

I couldn't help but notice that Tim Bray has posted an entry entitled RSS 2.0 and Atom 1.0, Compared which is somewhat misleading and inaccurate. I find it disappointing that Tim Bray couldn't simply announce the upcoming release of Atom 1.0 without posting a FUD style anti-RSS post as well.

I'm not going to comment on Tim Bray's comparison post beyond linking to other opinions such as those from Alex Bosworth on Atom Failings and Don Park on Atom Pendantics.

It's a wiki. If you think the accuracy can be improved, go improve it. This is supposed to be a general-purpose resource. Those who visit Bosworth & Park, be sure to read the comments.

Don't give me that "it's a wiki" bullshit, Tim. You can't just fill a wiki with half-truths and then say "it's a wiki, go improve it." I have to wrestle daily against mixing personal feelings in engineeing but the ugly side of me makes me ask others "why aren't you doing share?"
Sunday, July 17, 2005 4:26:05 PM (GMT Daylight Time, UTC+01:00)
The day Tim started asking people to promote a campaign asking people to post an absolutely dishonest message on their web sites that said "If you were looking at this in any browser but Microsoft Internet Explorer, it would look and run better and faster." I realized that he has no problem lying about companies and technology he doesn't like.

I think I lost a little of my star-struck innocence that day.

Dare: Of course it is "somewhat misleading and inaccurate"; everything anyone says is.

Don: If you are unable to point out any "half-truths", that's fine, but it certainly doesn't help developers or users to just be cranky.

Both of you: if you don't want to edit Tim's comparison wiki page, please create one of your own so it can be linked to from Tim's. If you can't do the comparison yourself, Tim's will remain the definitive source for most people.

Paul, you either didn't read my post or read only what you wanted to read.

I have better things to do with my time than waste it on Atom vs. RSS format wars.
