The following is a tutorial on posting to your blog on MSN Spaces using the W.Bloggar desktop blogging application.

  1. Create a Space on http://spaces.msn.com if you don't have one

  2. Go to 'Edit Your Space->Settings->Email Publishing'

  3. Turn on Email Publishing (screenshot below)

  4. Choose a secret word (screenshot below)

  5. Download and install the latest version of W.Bloggar from http://www.wbloggar.com

  6. Go to File->Add Account

  7. On the next screen, answer "Yes, I want to add it as a new account" when asked whether you already have a blog

  8. Select 'Custom' as your blog tool and choose an alias for this account (screenshot below)

  9. Select your Custom Blog Tool Settings as shown (screenshot below)

  10. Specify your provider information as follows; Host=storage.msn.com, Page=/storageservice/MetaWeblog.rpc, Port=443, HTTPS=checked (screenshot below)

  11. Enter your username and password. Your username is the name of your space (e.g. I use 'carnage4life' because the URL of my space is http://spaces.msn.com/members/carnage4life). The password is the secret word you selected when you turned on Email-Publishing on your space. (screenshot below)

  12. Click Finish.

  13. Go ahead and create, edit or delete blog posts on your blog using W.Bloggar

Hey Dare,

I come in peace ;)

I do have a question though... Do you have an MSN Space blog? I realize that this domain has been a part of you for quite some time, and I'm not suggesting that you should change. But wouldn't it be a great way to attract more bloggers to MSN Spaces by either:

a) Mask the fact that they are actually at an MSN Spaces hosted site by adding a CNAME to their domains zone file, IP forwarding, domain masking, or whatever other ways there might be to do this.

- or - and better yet

b) Make MSN Spaces distributed/decentralized. e.g. I subsribe to an RSS/Atom feed, and, via an app built on top of SQL Server Express, I 'one click' my way into both installing and keeping up to date my decentralized blogging mechanism. In exchange for always having my blogging software upgraded without doing anything other that enabling automatic upgrades the same advertising space would belong to you. Of course a syndicated version of my blog could be hosted on the actual MSN Spaces server in the same space that would normally exist for any give member to ensure that the community side of the business justification/use-case remains intact.

While I realize that a lot has changed since I last stepped foot on campus (as a paid contractor anyway) almost five years ago, I doubt much that the notion of DogFood is not proactively both preached and practiced all over campus. From the outside looking in, I must admit that I have found myself questioning why you haven't moved over to the MSN Spaces side of the world and I doubt that I'm the only one.

Just a thought. And a Peaceful one at that :D

Enjoy your day!

And if I opened my own damn eyes for one second I would have answered my own question.

Sorry, didn't notice the graphic in the backround of your image samples.

Looks like DogFood is still a tasty part of balanced MS diet... good to see (I wish I had seen it BEFORE my last post, but still... good to see :)
