Breaking Up
Breaking up with someone is another way of saying "I'd rather be alone than be with you".

Hey, cheer up there, Dare.
Logically, you're not right either. The breaker doesn't necessarily think that being alone is better in its own right than being with the breakee. But being alone may present the breaker with: (1)a break from needing to break the breakees neck, or (2) opportunities to meet other breakers, and thus in turn, become a breakee.
and anyway I'll bet you won't look back with regret after a little time has passed.
cheers

oh, and thanks for the great XML articles on MSDN, and for RssBandit, of course.

Sorry about that, man. Every relationship that goes bad takes you one step closer to the real thing.
Now, do you think it was a protocol incompatibility, or more of a scalability issue?

I felt the relationship was at a crossroads where we either got more serious or moved on. I didn't think we could get more serious and neither did she. The quote in my post is from a friend of mine in response to a comment by me about wanting to stay friends after breaking it off.

Though I don't want to disagree with you when you're feeling low, perhaps a better way of looking at this is that the person who did the breaking up recognized that which the person who is left will also recognize after a bit of time has past.
As for anyone preferring being alone rather than with you -- piffle! You're too interesting for that.
For a Microsoft type of person, that is. Poor dear.

Wishing you the very best. Breakups are difficult, but you'll not regret it in the long run -- once you've found "the one you absolutely can't live without" you'll know it. I did.

Not always, sometimes it's a way of saying "I'd rather be with THATguy than with you". Where THATguy is always < you. :) (set darkHumor off)

"Being alone" is more than just "being alone" because it makes it possible to meet other people who one might be able to get more serious with, I guess.

Dare - (oh finally my turn!) No! No! No! That quote is not true at all!
However, the staying friends part is REALLY hard to even conceive when the wounds are still pretty raw. It's a time for self-healing. been on both sides of the fence. Oh I better shut up. I have too much to say on the topic. Ditto what Shelley said.
