I've counted myself lucky to find a girlfriend who has similar tastes in music to me. Most of my friends don't like equal parts Lil Jon, Metallica, G-Unit and Backstreet Boys but my girlfriend does. In addition, she likes the crunk hip hop clubs just like I do. In fact, the clubs we tend to like going to regularly seem to end up getting closed down for being too crunk (e.g. Mr Lucky, Larry's).

So you can imagine that I was quite surprised by her recent request that we attend a Kenny Chesney concert. So I asked here "Who's Kenny Chesney?" and she replied that he was a country singer. I was like "But you don't like country music" and she replied that actually she did. Since this revelation, you are now just as likely to hear us listening to Settle for a Slowdown or What Hurts the Most as you are to hear Poppin' My Collar or Hustlin' as we drive down the street. How times change.

The concert is this weekend and I'm not sure I have appropriate attire. If one of my coworkers who reads my blog has a cowboy hat that I can borrow, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Keep in mind that in that community, a "Hoe-Down" is not a misogynistic statement.

don't sweat the clothes, man. Jeans and T-shirt is all you need for Kenny. And don't sweat the boots, if you don't have any, wear sandals. I've heard he puts on a great show, of course 75% of what I listen to is country, so I have a different point of view in this sitch.

I'd pay money to see you in a cowboy hat.

Country huh?

I might have to stop reading this blog then...

I pretty much like all the music you listed except country and Backstreet Boys(at least not in public)

I saw Kenny a couple of years ago, not too bad. Enjoy the show!

Take it from a guy who used to live in Texas, don't wear the cowboy hat unless you really feel comfortable in it. Otherwise you'll look as odd as you'll feel. ;-)

Ok, the Backstreet Boys thing disturbs me, but I have my own guilty pleasures (e.g., Shakira). I can respect the country thing, but I'm more an old school (Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, et al.) fan.

For the metal/hip-hop side of you, I offer up this mashup:

Looking forward to a report from the concert next week.

You should be flattered that a country fan would pretend to like crunk in order to land you. Nobody ever did that for me. Just don't give too much ground yet -- you will need it later. Never say no; just string it out. Women don't like abrupt change. Promise her that you'll go to a country concert on your second-year anniversary of dating, and then drag it out to three or four. If you've already promised; too bad -- just learn your lesson next time.

Well, I think you have to have boots if you're going to a boot-scootin' concert! Brush up on that 2 step and y'all have a blast!

P.S. Most bizarre thing I've seen in the country bars here around Dallas: at 10 PM they break from country music for an hour of more contemporary-type music. First time I saw cowboys and cowgirls in full bar costume break dancing away...

I saw Kenny Chesney at Neyland Stadium in my hometown (Knoxville, TN) a few years ago - he was the first person allowed to play on that field since Michael jackson in the 80's!!! I loved it and now I'm going to the KC concert in Nashville, TN on July 8th.
My husband doesn't want to go, but talked another couple in to going with us so he and the other guy can complain together ;-) He is going to wear cargo shorts, flip flops and a NIRVANA t-shirt!!

I love country music (George Strait is my FAVORITE)and my hubby likes some of it but mostly the old stuff, like Randy Travis, Merle Haggard and Conway Twitty. He's really in to Southern Rock and HipHop/Rap

Anyway....have a good time and don't worry too much about what you're wearing. Try not to form an opinion before you get there...KC puts on a GREAT show and I'm sure that if you're open to new thngs, you'll have a blast!
