Both Dave Walker and Tim Bray state their aggregators of choice barfed when trying to read a post entitled </TAG> because their aggregators of choice didn't know how to deal with tags in content. Weird. RSS Bandit dealt with it fine. Screenshot below.

Combining this with Arve Bersvendsen's comments from yesterday I suspect that the main problems that people complain about when processing RSS is due to sloppy programming. I am amused that Tim Bray thinks adding a lot more complexity is the solution to the problem. I guess that's why I don't work on standards bodies. :)

Hmm... SharpReader dealt with Tim's </TAG> post just fine as well.

Ummm... I'm using RSS Bandit and all I saw was : "...trying to read a post entitled because their aggregators of choice didn't know..."..

Maybe you should fix the Comment viewer to handle that before you throw that stone, Glass House Boy

FWIW, the point of my post wasn't that "RSS is bad", it was that, for XML in general, escaping, unescaping, and double-escaping is a place where a lot of little things can go wrong if you're not careful. I was aiming for "amused" rather than "peevish". if that makes sense.

And yeah, what Tom M. said, which makes my point all over again.

Tom M,
This is a bug in my blog tool. This doesn't show up on the web page either. Interesting given that it worked when I previewed it.

OK, fixed it. The title of Tim's post should appear in my blog post now. It seems going back and forth between the WYSIWYG view and HTML source view screwed it up when editing the post.

Tom M,
I'm not sure your duplicate post is a troll or not but like I said I fixed the blog post and it should show up fine in any aggregator now including RSS Bandit. If you continue to post duplicate comments I'll assume you are simply trolling and delete the rest of your comments.

Not meant to be a troll... RSS Bandit kept saying that I was not authorized when I tried to reply to the message. Sorry for the dup. If I get that error again, I'll just ignore it.

Aah, but his piece was not titled </TAG>. The actual
title was </TAG>. RSS Bandit is in error!
