It seems the more popular hip hop gets the more I hate the stuff that gets played on the hip hop radio stations. I particularly cringe whenever I hear J-Kwon's “Tipsy” or Kanye West's “Through the Wire”. It seems I've begun to retreat into the past or listen exclusively to mix tapes. Select tracks from the following albums have been playing semi-regularly on my iPod in the past few weeks

A friend of mine suggested picking up a Linkin Park album but I'm not sure where to start. I have heard their collaboration with the X-Ecutioners on It's Goin' Down and I liked it. So the question is whether to go with their last album or their first album.

I'm with you on this one. I still am stuck on the late eighties and early nineties of hip-hop, Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, Arrested Development, Biggie Smalls, Tu Pac and my favorite hip-hop song of all time (for some reason) It Takes Two by Rob Base.

The recent music I do like is almost anything in collaboration with Timbaland or the Neptunes. Missy Elliot, some of 50 cent (In Da Club), and Outkast.

I like the Kanye West album (and that single) quite a bit. Whether it gives heavy airplay doesn't matter to me, I think it is very good.

Dare,

Check out N.E.R.D. The first album was very good. I'm listening to their latest now on Rhapsody and I'm digging it. I agree with the above comment regarding Timbaland. He's doing some amazing stuff, especially as a producer.

Ditto on the Kanye West album, I'm really feeling it. Then again, I'm not sure how much if I would have ever thought about buying it if I wasn't listening to Hot 97 two or three hours a day.
